  • Annealing: The process by which steel is heated and then cooled to improve its formability and make its surface more durable.
  • Anodizing: A finishing technique that electrically converts the surface of raw aluminum to metal oxide to form a very hard, non-corrosive surface.
  • ANSI: The American National Standards Institute. Items with an ANSI number meet ANSI standards.
  • ASME: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Products with an ASME number meet ASME standards.
  • ASTM: Officially named ASTM International, this organization was originally known as the American Society for Testing and Materials, but it has evolved into an international standards organization and ANSI has taken charge of United States standards. An ASTM number on one of our products means that it complies with their standards.

  • CNC Milling: CNC is short for Computer Numerical Control-it refers to a computer "controller" that reads instructions and drives the machine tool.   • Ductile, Ductility : A physical quality ascribed to a metal that will permit plastic elongation (wire drawing) without fracturing.
  • Ear: Protruding "bumps" fabricated on a tube to allow engagement with mating plastic parts.
  • Engineering Strength: Also known as yield strength, engineering strength is defined as the stress at which a predetermined amount of permanent deformation occurs. However, once the engineering strength has been exceeded, the original numbers no longer apply due to a condition called necking which is a stretching or elongation of the material.
  • Fabrication: The action or process of manufacturing or inventing something-a manufacturing solution that can utilize punching, cutting, drilling, tapping and forming capabilities.
